Oil Sands

1. How will we know what career opportunities are available?
Information on opportunities for permanent positions will be posted on our website. We also plan to talk with local communities to find out additional ways that we can communicate this information.

2. When will project construction begin?
The project will begin construction during 2009 and will finish in 2011. Operations will begin once construction is complete and will carry through to 2037.

3. How many people will work on your Kirby project?
There will be approximately 50 full-time and contract people needed for operations.

4. How will nearby communities benefit economically from the project?
There are a number of ways for the project to benefit nearby communities. For example, the project will create jobs that could be filled by local people and the project will need businesses that either exist or could be created to support its operations. As good neighbours, Enerplus will continue to be involved in local community and social development initiatives.

5. What will you do for the communities?
We believe that community involvement helps the company build and strengthen relationships in order to achieve healthy, sustainable communities in which to live and work. Our community investment initiatives are focused in four key areas:

  • health and research
  • education
  • environment and safety
  • community living

Our community involvement goes beyond dollars and cents. Many additional activities and events take place to support the four key causes and staff are encouraged to take part. Through volunteer involvement and contributions to non-profit and community-based organizations, we help to improve the communities in the areas that we operate. 6. What are the training requirements to work at the site? Will you provide these?
For employees, this training will be provided. However, at this time, for anything other than Site Orientation, contractors will be expected to have the following training before working on site:

  • Site Orientation
  • CSTS (Construction Safety Training System)
  • H2S Alive
  • WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Material Identification System)
  • Post Training.

As additional training requirements are identified they will be added to this list.

7. What will happen to the roads and trails when the project is finished?
We will reclaim the roads and trails when the project is finished. We will remove any garbage and debris from the site. Our goal is to create a reclaimed landscape which blends into the surrounding area (topography) with a capability for forestry or ecological functions similar to the pre-development conditions.

8. What will the site look like after the project is over?
We will reclaim the site following decommissioning of the project. The buildings and equipment will be removed and wells will be abandoned. We will remove any garbage and debris from the site. Our goal is to create a reclaimed landscape which blends into the surrounding area (topography) with a capability for forestry or ecological functions similar to the pre-development conditions.
